Harriton senior goalie Jackie Marshall has made a verbal commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Widener University.

Marshall was awarded the Rams’ 2009 Defensive Player of the Year and allowed just under 10 goals per game last season. She is intending to major in Sports Management at Widener.

Marshall picked Widener over Fairleigh Dickinson University because of the academics, the program’s continued improvement under coach Robin Baxter, and the proximity to her family.

“Once I got into coach Baxter’s office the nerves subsided and I felt comfortable talking with her I started to get that feeling that I could be a part of the program,” Marshall said.

“Then after walking around campus I just knew that I could see myself attending Widener in the fall.”

Marshall’s cousin, Josh Fox, is a sophomore attackman for the men’s team. Fellow Harriton senior Carly Sukonik has already signed with Division I Lehigh University.

In the meantime, Marshall and the rest of her team are ready for a new season after finishing 12-7 last year.

“Our whole team from last year is returning and we will continue to be competitive in the Central League,” Marshall said. “I’m looking forward to the start of the season.

“Just talking about it gets me pumped up about the season.”
