Council Rock South senior midfielder Matt Finor has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at the University of Scranton.

Finor earned Second Team Suburban One National Conference honors last year when he led the Hawks to their first winning season (10-8) ever. He collected 14 goals, 17 assists and 98 groundballs and is a two-year captain.

Finor also played for Team Philly in the adidas National Lacrosse Classic.

Coaching, team unity and new campus facilities drew Finor to Scranton.

“I really like the coach, he’s a nice guy,” Finor said of Jim Rogalski. “I like his coaching philosophy.

“I went on an overnight and I met with the team,” Finor added. “They seemed very nice and they’re real close to each other. The kid I stayed with took me out to dinner with all of the team and they seemed like they’re a close family.”

The Scranton roster currently features 15 players from the Philly region.

Scranton is scheduled to complete construction of a new science building by the fall. Finor, a member of the National Honor Society who plans to major in Biology, is excited for the new facility.

Finor joins St. Joseph’s Prep midfielder Dan Crawford as Scranton recruits.

Finor is confident the Hawks can challenge in the Suburban One National race and earn a District 1 playoff berth.

“We’re planning on trying to make playoffs this year, because we have a pretty good team – a lot of seniors, a lot of returning kids,” he said. “We’re going to have a good season this year.”
